BRISA+

Brisa+ — Project Brief

In dense informal settlements around the world, tightly clustered buildings often result in poor ventilation, affecting residents’ health and increasing the risk of airborne diseases.

We propose Brisa+, an interactive simulation system that uses minimal spatial interventions to improve community airflow and reduce health risks. It dynamically models building layouts, greenery, and wind corridors to visualize their impacts on urban comfort and well-being.

Brisa+ has been applied in Favela do Vidigal, Rio de Janeiro, helping users understand how small adjustments—such as creating wind paths, adding green spaces, and modifying building heights—can significantly improve ventilation.

Inspired by the “butterfly effect”, tiny design changes can generate profound improvements for urban environments. Brisa+ offers an innovative approach for sustainable urban renewal.

This project was developed in the Tsinghua + MIT Senseable City Lab Joint Workshop, October 2025.
